Kofi D. Fynn
Kofi D. Fynn is the Managing Director of Petra Trust Company Ltd. Prior to founding Petra Trust, Kofi was Chief Operating Officer in charge of Asset Management at Oceanic Capital Company Limited (“OCCL”), the investment banking subsidiary of Oceanic Bank International Plc. At OCCL, Kofi was responsible for setting and implementing the strategy for the asset management business, as well as co-managing the day to day operations of OCCL. In addition to his executive responsibilities, and as part of his broad leadership roles within the Oceanic Bank Group, Kofi led the strategic review of Oceanic Bank’s decision to enter the Nigerian Pension Market as a Pension Fund Custodian, and advised the firm on how to position the pension custody business for success.
Kofi joined OCCL in March 2008 from Wellington Management Company in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was an associate partner. Wellington Management is a global asset management firm with in excess of $550 billion of assets under management. As the lead portfolio manager for central banks and international organization mandates, Kofi managed a portfolio totaling $4 billion in assets. This was broadly distributed among pension fund, reserve fund and sovereign wealth fund mandates from some of the largest institutions in Asia and Africa. In addition to his portfolio management role, Kofi was responsible for leading the firm’s advisory effort to this sector. Working closely with some of these institutions and their consultants, he provided advice on investment policy design, implementation and monitoring.
Before joining Wellington Management Kofi worked at Blackrock Financial Management, a global asset management firm with over $3.6 trillion under management, At Blackrock he led the team responsible for the management of risk in all of the firm’s leveraged vehicles.
Kofi earned both bachelors and a masters degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Deputy Managing Director
Chris Hammond is the Deputy Managing Director of Petra Trust. He joined Petra Trust from Aerocontractors Company of Nigeria (“ACN”) where he served as Chief Finance Officer. In his position as CFO, Chris oversaw ACN’s Finance, Purchasing and Information and Computer Technology teams and was central to the company’s strategy and business development.
Prior to joining ACN, Chris headed the Telecommunications, Media and Technology coverage practice within Oceanic Capital Company Ltd’s Investment Banking Group. He was responsible for the origination and structuring of financing transactions in his stated sectors as well as for the Aviation sector.
Chris joined Oceanic Capital, from Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC in New York where he worked as an investment banker in the company’s Financial Sponsors Group. In his role at Credit Suisse, Chris focused on providing advisory and execution services to clients, primarily private equity clients, in leveraged buyouts, sell-side and IPO transactions across various industries. Prior to Credit Suisse, Chris worked in the energy sector with Mirant Corporation in a risk management capacity and as a consultant with Cap Gemini.
Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Highest Honors) in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and holds a Masters of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same university. He also holds an MBA from The Sloan School Management of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Head of Operations
Helena Poku is the Head of Operations at Petra Trust. She joined Petra Trust from T. Rowe Price where she served as a Senior Investment Officer and Retirement Consultant. T Rowe Price is an Investment Management Firm managing $555 billion in assets. In this position, she managed a team of certified investment advisors who advised high net-worth clientele and small to medium size enterprises on what pension plans to establish and assets to invest into for portfolio optimization.
Before joining T. Rowe Price, Helena worked at Bear Stearns & Co., an Investment Bank at New York as an Institutional Sales Representative managing their financial and healthcare accounts. Her day to day role involved meeting with Institutional clients to discuss topical issues that impacted their investment portfolios. She was also responsible for managing the operations of the entire sales team managing morning calls for the entire sales force with investors as well as was organizing roadshows for both initial and secondary offers between company and investor community.
Helena graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Spelman College and holds a Masters of Science degree in Finance with concentration in Investment Management from The University of Tampa, FL.
